For this relocation of a financial company in the heart of the City of London, the catering facilities had to cater for a number of demands, including, an all-day dining/coffee bar facility for the staff, client hospitality & fine dining suite and an interactive wine cave.  Interiors were given a contemporary retail feel by TP Bennett.

QVC, the 24 hour shopping TV channel, hired SHW to design all the food and beverage facilities for its new building in Chiswick, West London. Working with GMW Architects, SHW drew up plans for the staff restaurant kitchen, a coffee bar in the reception/lobby and a kitchen to support TV studio cookery demonstrations.

Gareth Sefton from SHW said “Our ethos was to make it easy to work in and energy efficient.” Clive Walton from SHW worked with contractors to ensure equipment followed specifications and was installed correctly.

For fast service, SHW designed a free flow servery area offering a host of choices including four hot dishes, two soups, a hot deli, a ‘Grab & Go’ area and a self-service salad bar.

To create added interest and ‘theatre’, a stone deck oven is the focal point of the front of house finishing station, used for specials of the day such as pizza or cannelloni.

SHW also designed an eye-catching servery counter for the coffee bar in reception.

Cookery demonstrations take place in the TV studio kitchen featuring the food on sale at QVC. Gareth says: “We designed a domestic kitchen to a commercial standard. We needed to install a domestic kitchen that would cook food the way viewers do at home, but we also installed a stainless steel worktop and a commercial dishwasher.”

SHW were appointed by BNP Paribas to develop the catering service within their new building at 7 Harewood Avenue.  Initially undertaking a strategy review of the building, we investigated and proposed various types of services to compliment across the campus and to promote staff moving between its buildings.

The client adopted a street food style offer within its restaurant, with the installation of a gas fired stone hearth oven, pasta bar and robata grill for a la minute cooking.  this sat alongside a staple hot offer, salad bar, deli and coffee bars.

When Mace, the world-renowned construction management company, relocated its headquarters, it invited SHW to design the foodservice facilities for some 800 staff and visitors.

SHW designed a first-floor cafe and support kitchen as well as catering facilities on the fifth floor to provide food and beverages for meetings.

On other floor levels, SHW designed eight ‘breakout’ areas, with refrigerators for staff to bring in their own food, dishwashing, tea/coffee and chilled water facilities.

Foodservice contractor Lexington Catering said the overall response from its customers has been very positive.
